Our Homeschool Journey…..
I have been homeschooling Gracie for almost 2 years now, and thought I would share some of the things that are working (and occasionally some things that aren’t). I taught in a Christian elementary school for 9 years know the value of Bible memory work so this is where I’ve decided to begin our journey.
We being each day with our Bible lessons, songs, and memory work. It just gets us off on the right path.
A-Z Bible Memory Verses
I love composition books and am always looking for new uses for them. My daughter likes βall things glitteryβ and I never seem to know what to do with all of her embellishments. So here is an idea for both! This will become a treasured memory of her kindergarten year of committing God’s word to memory!
We decorated the outside of her “A-Z Bible Memory Work” with all kinds of sparkly things (since it is such a treasure)! (I did this project with her using a glue gun, but she choose the placement of each item, this way it will last for many years.)
- I print out all of the A-Z verses and put one on each page. (I am currently using A Beka’s list of verses for Kindergarten.)
- The first day a verse is introduced, I write out the verse on lined paper and cut them out into individual words (giving her a good writing model). She then rearranges and pastes the cut out verse back together. (This is a great idea I have taken from the 4 Blocks method of making sentences, which you can also use for making words.)
- On day number two, she writes the verse out.
- We sometimes add another activity on day three if the verse is slightly more difficult.
- By day number three or four she is usually ready to recite the verse.
We of course have other ways to work on verses… like, writing out the verse on the white board and taking turns erasing a couple of words and reciting each time to see if we can remember what was erased. There are so many great ideas to incorporate into this skill, but I really like having the book as a momento of the year. She also loves reviewing the verses she has already learned and showing them to the rest of the family, and the book is perfect for doing this.

Love the notebook! And it’s a great idea to start with rearranging the verses. π thanks for the tips!
Wow, thanks! After looking at your “about” I can’t believe how much you do with such a small amount of time, your awesome! Keep on blogging!

Thanks for the comment! I also started it with my newly adopted 9 and 11 year old daughters and they love it. It is so nice to say “get out your Bible Treasure Book” and see the excitement in their eyes! I think we will just continue to use until they are filled and then start another one. We are done with the alphabet, but we continue to put our Bible Memory Treasures in the book. I actually wish I would have had this when I was growing up. (I think my memory would be better of the verses I had while growing up, because I would have gone back and looked at them more often.)
